Matt Murray will return from a hip injury and start Tuesday vs. Pittsburgh.

Murray has not taken the crease since October 12th due to a hip injury that kept him out for the last month. He will return to the Leafs' crease Tuesday as a welcome addition as Toronto is currently without Ilya Samsonov due to injury as well. In one game prior to his hip injury, Murray allowed four goals on 23 shots (.826 SV%) in a losing effort vs. Montreal.

Murray allowed four goals on 23 shots (.826 SV%) in a losing effort vs. Montreal his only start of the season on October 12th. Murray has missed the last month due to a hip injury but returns to the crease Tuesday to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Murray has been out since mid-October due to a lower-body injury sustained in practice. The 28-year-old was hoping for a career resurgent season after being acquired by Toronto in the offseason but struggled in his only start allowing four goals on 23 shots (.826 SV%) in a loss to Montreal.

The Maple Leafs have placed Murray (adductor injury) on Long Term Injured Reserve. He is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks.

Moving Murray to LTIR provides the Maple Leafs with some salary cap flexibility and will allow them to make some call-ups next week. With Murray out for at least one month, Ilya Samsonov figures to be very busy moving forward.

Murray was in-line to start Saturday's game vs. the Senators but left the morning skate early with discomfort in his groin. The Maple Leafs did not rule him out, but it seems likely that Ilya Samsonov will start so Murray's injury doesn't get worse.

Matt Murray will make his much anticipated Maple Leafs' debut Wednesday as he leads Toronto in a division battle against Montreal. The 28-year-old is hoping the change of scenery will be exactly what he needs to return to anywhere close to the .923 SV% form he had with Pittsburgh in 2016-17. In 20 starts a season ago, Murray had five wins while pitching a .906 SV% and 3.05 GAA.

Murray was hurt in the third period Tuesday's game vs. the Blues and did not return. Murray was not on the ice for Wednesday's practice and will not travel to Buffalo. The Senators are hopeful that he will be available for their back-to-back in Ottawa over the weekend.
