Calgary has signed Michael Benning to a one-year, two-way contract.
Benning was a fourth-round pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft who made his NHL debut in the 2025-26 season. The 24-year-old defenseman averaged 16:54 time-on-ice and scored six points (2G / 4A) last season in 18 games with the Panthers.
Benning has been recalled from Charlotte (AHL) and will make his NHL debut on Thursday.

After two seasons in Charlotte (AHL), Michael Benning is expected to return to the Checkers after the 23-year-old signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with Florida on Thursday. The puck-moving defenseman has yet to make an NHL appearance but has excelled with the Checkers in his last two seasons, putting up an impressive nine goals, 32 points and 34 PIMs in 54 games played last season.
