Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs have recalled Michael Hutchinson from Toronto (AHL).

Hutchinson has performed well for the Marlies, going 14-5-1 with a 2.70 GAA and .910 SV% in 23 games. During a brief stint with the Maple Leafs earlier in the year, Hutchinson was 2-3-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .914 SV% in five games. It looks like Hutchinson is simply added insurance as the Leafs head into the playoffs, but don’t be surprised if he starts the season finale after Garret Sparks’ struggles continued on Tuesday.

Hutchinson surrendered four goals on 34 shots in the Maple Leafs loss to the Wild on Thursday afternoon. Hutchinson was a busy man in his Maple Leafs debut but draws a better matchup tonight with the Canucks in town. Vancouver will be without Elias Pettersson and come in at 11-11-3 on the road this season.

The Maple Leafs have acquired Michael Hutchinson from the Panthers for a 2020 fifth-round pick.

The Maple Leafs lacked goaltending depth after losing Calvin Pickard and Curtis McElhinney in the preseason. Hutchinson provides some added depth but hasn’t had a good year. The 28-year-old has gone 2-3-1 with a 3.33 GAA and .906 SV% in eight games with Springfield (AHL) and has a 2.70 GAA and .907 SV% in 106 career NHL games.

The Panthers have signed Michael Hutchinson to a one-year, $1.3M contract.

Hutchinson started at least 28 games for three straight seasons from 2015-to-2017 but spent the majority of 2018 in the AHL. Overall, he was 17-5-1 with a 2.08 GAA and .935 SV% with the Manitoba Moose. Hutchinson is No.3 on the Panthers’ goaltending depth chart, so he will start the 2019 season in the AHL.
