Michal Neuvirth News

Neuvirth will start vs. the Blue Jackets on Friday.

Neuvirth stopped just 32 of 36 shots in the Flyers’ 5-4 shootout loss to the Devils on Tuesday. Neuvirth (2.61 GAA/.911 SV%) has been a serviceable back-up this season, and should see a starter’s workload for the next five to six weeks while Brian Elliot nurses a core muscle injury. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the Blue Jackets.

With Brian Elliott getting hurt in the shootout the night before, the Flyers turned to Neuvirth, who was great in the shootout and even better in Vegas. Neuvirth has turned in performances like this before but is terribly inconsistent. He will look to build off of it tonight vs. New Jersey—he stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 win vs. the Devils in late-January.

Neuvirth missed Monday’s practice with an illness.

With Brian Elliott dealing with a lower-body injury, Neuvirth becomes the Flyers temporary No.1 option but his absence from Monday’s practice clouds his status for Wednesday’s game in Washington.
