Koivu will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL and meniscus.
Koivu suffered the injured while colliding with Tage Thompson of the Sabres. This is a huge blow for the Wild, who have recalled Joel Eriksson Ek from Iowa (AHL) to replace Koivu at centre. Koivu finishes the season with eight goals and 21 assists (29 points) in 48 games.
Koivu (lower-body) will be back in the Wild’s lineup on Tuesday.
Koivu has missed the last four games with a lower-body injury but will play Tuesday vs. the Sharks. The lines were shuffled while Koivu was out and will remain the same tonight, with Koivu returning on the third line with Jason Zucker and Luke Kunin on his wings.

Koivu has missed the last three games with a knee injury that he suffered on December 6th in Calgary. The Wild play in the afternoon on Saturday, so monitor his status when they hit the ice for warmups at 1:00 pm.

Koivu was hurt in Calgary on Thursday in a collision with Mark Giordano, a play that resulted in Giordano getting suspended. The Wild listed Koivu as day-to-day but he could miss three weeks with a sprained MCL and hamstring injury according to Michael Russo of The Athletic. Luke Kunin was recalled from Iowa (AHL) to replace Koivu on the roster.
Koivu (lower-body) was sent back to Minnesota to be evaluated.

The Wild signed Mikko Koivu to a two-year extension worth $11.0M ($5.5M AAV).
Koivu was heading into the final year of his seven-year contract that carries a $6.75M cap-hit, but the Wild inked the 34-year-old to a deal that will take him through the 2019-20 season. The Wild captain had 18 goals and 40 assists (58 points) in 80 games last season and is tied for 30th in the NHL in assists (113) and tied for 45th in points (162) while only missing four games over the last three seasons.

Koivu was hospitalized during Tuesday’s game in Columbus, but was released later that night. Less than 48 hours after being hospitalized, Koivu was on the ice for the Wild’s morning skate and will be in the lineup vs. the Flyers. Koivu has just two goals and one assist in his last eight games.
Koivu was taken to the hospital after crashing into the boards in Tuesday’s win in Columbus.
