Mikko Koivu News

Mikko Koivu will not play. I'd think tomorrow in Calgary is a very good possibility. I don't think the Wild ever was going to have him play back-to-back.

Sounds like Koivu will play in at least one more game before the break. Check back for a further update on his status.

#mnwild Bouchard and Koivu are still listed as day-to-day and will travel with team to Canada.

Koivu travelling with the team is a welcome sign for the Wild. The team's captain was expected to miss up to four games but could draw back in sooner.

Koivu stepping back onto the ice is a welcome sign for the Wild. The team's captain will not play tonight and likely misses up to four games.

Captain Mikko Koivu will at least miss Saturday’s game against the Islanders, GM Chuck Fletcher told me this morning, with a leg injury. He hopes he's back before Christmas, meaning he could miss the road trip. Coach Mike Yeo will update Koivu and the rest of the injuries after this morning’s practice. Koivu is obviously not on the ice.

Not good news for the Wild as Koivu is their offensive catalyst. The Wild travel until the Christmas break so Koivu could miss the next four games. In the meantime, Matt Cullen becomes the top-line center. Check back for a further update on his status.

As of now, the Wild's not saying what's wrong, but it has confirmed to me he did get hurt, that it doesn't think it's too serious and that he is going to see the docs today.

Koivu is a vital cog in the team's system as their captain and first line center. The playmaker has eight goals and 28 points through 32 games and would be missed should he miss any playing time.

As expected, Mikko Koivu should play

Koivu will center the top line today. Still searching for his first goal of the year. the team's captain has three assists over his first seven games. Look for him to break out of his slump momentarily.

Koivu, I've got to think, will be able to play, but we'll get an update after practice. He's definitely OK, and very lucky. Let's put it this way: What did happen to him is a lot better than what nearly happened to him.

Great to hear... so far it looks like sitting out practice was just a precautionary move.

"Even a player like Mikko [Koivu]. He was coming off [shoulder surgery last summer], so he could do a lot more training. [Niklas] Backstrom is in great shape. This is good."

Koivu will have two legitimate snipers on his line for perhaps the first time in his career. The smooth playmaker has totaled 45 assists or more in each of the past three years.
