Nathan Horton News

Horton had surgery in July, shortly after he left the Boston Bruins to sign with the Blue Jackets as a free agent. “I’m at nine weeks now,” Horton said. “Ten weeks is when I pick it up a little more in terms of the rehab, and that’s when I expect to start to see progress. But it’s four months before the bone is fully healed. So I’ve got a while yet. I have to stay patient.”

Horton can’t start skating, he said, until four months after the surgery, which would be mid-November. The club won’t put a timeline on his return, but it’s expected in December or January. If you have an IR spot in your league it might not be a bad idea to stash the six-time 20 goal scorer.

Nathan Horton's deal with CBJ is 7 years, $37.1 ($5.3 AAV) but he gets $30M in first 5 years.

Horton said that he wanted to go to a smaller market and that is likely why he chose the Blue Jackets. He had a great playoffs with the Bruins this season and will bring that to a Columbus team who doesn't have very much playoff experience. He will join the likes of Marian Gaborik and Sergei Bobrovsky on an emerging team who is headed to the Eastern Conference next season.

Coach Julien said Nathan Horton is a game-time decision tonight.

Horton practiced in full yesterday and today so it looks very likely that he will play. If he does play he will play on his regular line with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. Horton had 17 points in 21 games in 2010-11; his only playoff appearance.

Chiarelli said that if Horton were cleared, he's a "longshot" to return given that he'd need "a couple weeks" to get ready. #Bruins

Don't expect to see Horton back in the lineup for the rest of the regular season. From the sound of it, he probably won't return in the playoffs either. The power forward scored 17 goals and 32 points in 46 games.
