Nathan Lieuwen News

Lieuwen will start for the Sabres.

Lieuwen stopped 26 of 28 shot in a 2-1 loss to the Blues on Thursday. After Matt Hackett started on Friday, the Sabres will get the 6-foot-5 Lieuwen back between the pipes tonight. He is 1-3-0 with 2.57 GAA and .916 SV% to start his NHL career. Those are solid numbers, but the squad in front of him seriously damages his fantasy value.

Lieuwen will start vs. the Blues.

Lieuwen stopped 33 of 35 shots in a 3-2 shootout win over the Devils on Tuesday. The win was Lieuwen's first as he moved to 1-2-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .913 SV% in five appearances. Despite the nice outing vs. the Devils, the facts are that he is a Sabres netminder taking on a great St. Louis team tonight.

Lieuwen will start in goal for the Sabres.

Lieuwen will make his third NHL start tonight vs. the Devils. He has gone 0-2-0 with a 3.42 GAA and .889 SV% in his first two starts, plus one relief appearance. He had a strong AHL campaign going, but playing on the worst team in the NHL makes it difficult to post strong numbers. Look elsewhere for a most stable spot-start.

Lieuwen will start on Sunday.

Lieuwen allowed three goals on 26 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Flames in his first career start. Sunday, he will face the Canucks, while Matt Hackett is expected to go on Tuesday. With the fantasy hockey playoffs in full swing, it is difficult to warrant starting a rookie goaltender, especially a Sabres' one.

The Sabres have reclled Nathan Lieuwen from Rochester on an emergency basis.

It's the first time the 22-year-old has been summoned to the NHL. The emergency basis means either Jhonas Enroth or Michal Neuvirth is sick or injured. Lieuwen has excelled with the Amerks this season. The organization originally expected him to merely compete with Connor Knapp for the backup job, but he's wrestled the starting role away from Matt Hackett. Lieuwen, drafted in the sixth round in 2011, has appeared in 32 games with a 17-11-2 record, 2.34 GAA and .922 SV%.

Jake Gardiner will be a healthy scratch for the Maple Leafs tonight.

Gardiner struggled against the Blue Jackets on Monday so he will take a seat to night in favour of Paul Ranger. Don't expect Gardiner to sit out too many games, but this coach Randy Carlyle sending him a message, that he needs more out of the young D-man.

Gardiner to play with Franson #leafs

With Mark Fraser out Gardiner will get bumped up to the Maple Leafs second pair and J.M Liles will slide into his old spot on the third pair. Gardiner played very well in Game 4, he had two assists, three hits and three blocked shots in 27:45 of ice time. The only downfall of his game on Wednesday was his four giveaways.

Gardiner is expected to play for the Leafs on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, making only his third appearance in the NHL this season.

Gardiner spent the full season with the Leafs and was named to the NHL’s all-rookie team a year ago, pulling off the rare feat of scoring 30 points from the back end in his first full year as a pro. Since being returned to the Marlies in late January, however, Gardiner has 14 points in 21 games in the AHL and overall is 12th in league scoring for defencemen despite missing 18 games.
