The Wild have acquired Nick Bjugstad from the Penguins for a conditional 2021 draft pick.
Bjugstad missed 46 games after undergoing core muscle surgery in 2020 and then was hurt again three games after returning to the lineup and then the season was paused. Bjugstad has missed a total of 92 games (39.5%) over the last three seasons but will look for a fresh start in his hometown. Bjusgstad was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to the University of Minnesota, so this should be a welcomed move for the 28-year-old centre. Both Mikko Koivu and Alex Galchenyuk are UFAs at season's end, so there could be a very clear path to a bottom-6 role for Bjugstad.

Bjugstad will miss his third straight game on Thursday and will miss at least two months after undergoing surgery today. Bjugstad has been sidelined since October 5th but will travel on the Penguins upcoming road-trip, which starts Tuesday in Florida. There's no indication whether or not Bjugstad will play on the trip but this is a step in the right direction for the 27-year-old centre.
Bjugstad (lower-body) is expected to be out “longer-term.”
Both Bjugstad and Evgeni Malkin are expected to miss extended periods of time with lower-body injuries. The Penguins were deep down the middle heading into the season and now will have to rely on players like Jared McCann and Teddy Blueger to centre their middle-6. Bjugstad has missed at least 15 games in three of the last four years.
The Penguins have acquired Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann from the Panthers for Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan, a 2019 2nd round pick and two 2019 4th round picks.

Bjugstad (upper-body) will be in the Panthers lineup on Tuesday.
Bjugstad is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Bjugstad missed Monday’s practice so his status for Tuesday’s game is in question. The Panthers called the winger “day-to-day” so monitor his status during Tuesday’s morning skate. With Bjugstad absent today, Denis Malgin skated on the Panthers’ top line and Mike Hoffman moved back to the second line.
