Nick Holden has retired from the NHL after 12 seasons.

Holden announced he would be stepping away from hockey to join the Vegas Golden Knights Player Development Staff after 12 NHL seasons with six different teams (COL, VGK, CBJ, NYR, OTT, BOS). The 36-year-old defenseman played in 65 games with Ottawa in 2022-23, picking up two goals, 14 assists, 73 SOG, and 10 PIMs. He finishes his career with 52 goals, 178 points, 174 PIMs, and a +16 plus/minus in 654 games played.

Holden hasn't played since November 5th but will draw back into the Senators' lineup after Nikita Zaitsev was waived Wednesday. In nine games this season, Holden has a goal and an assist along with 10 SOG and a +2 plus/minus rating.

Holden has scored one goal with three assists (four points) in 30 games with the Senators this season. Holden has settled in as a steady, second-pairing defenseman for the Senators. He has 40 blocked shots and 54 hits while averaging 19:22 TOI/gm.

The Golden Knights have signed Nick Holden to a two-year contract extension worth $3.4 million ($1.7M AAV).

Holden was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season but is now locked up through the 2022 season. Holden has scored five goals with six assists (11 points) in 54 games this season while ranking third among Vegas defensemen in PK TOI (1:56/gm).
