The Red Wings have activated Niklas Kronwall (knee) from IR; expected to play on Tuesday.

Kronwall has missed the last 15 games after having his knee scoped, but he was activated from IR this morning and will return to the lineup vs. the Blue Jackets. Kronwall has three goals, 14 assists (17 points) and a minus-10 rating in 45 games this season. Xavier Ouellet will be a healthy scratch with Kronwall back.

Kronwall has been suspended for Game 7 on Wednesday.

Kronwall has been suspended for what the NHL’s department of Player Safety deemed as a “charge” for his hit on Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov. Kronwall has no previous history of fine or suspension, so he has only been given one game and will be back for Game 1 in Montreal, should the Red Wings get by the Lightning tonight.

A speedy recovery for what was a scary hit. Kronwall will return to the Red Wings blueline tomorrow, but will find himself with a new D-partner with Jonathan Ericsson out. It will likely be Kyle Quincey or Danny DeKeyser. Xavier Ouellet has been reassigned to Grand Rapids (AHL).

Kronwall said he's waiting for results if the concussion tests he had this morning but he expects to be cleared for tomorrow.

Kronwall was a full participant in both Monday and Tuesday's practice so it appears as if he will be a go tomorrow vs. Ottawa. Rookie Xavier Ouellet or Brendan Smith are the likely candidates to come out of the lineup.

Because he is suffering from a concussion he will need clearance from doctors before he can resume skating, but this is great news for the Red Wings and Kronwall owners. It was a dangerous and scary play on Thursday, but he won't miss a lengthy period of time. Jakub Kindl will serve as his replacement on the top PP unit.

ST. LOUIS -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall left Tuesday's game after being checked from behind head-first into the boards by St. Louis forward Chris Stewart. Kronwall laid motionless on the ice for a few seconds before behind helped off by the trainer. No word yet on his condition.

Kronwall was already less than 100 percent before the injury and figures to miss some playing time, The Stockholm, Sweden native scored four goals and seven points prior to getting hurt.
