San Jose solidified their defensive depth on Tuesday after they announced the signing of Nolan Allan to a two-year contract extension. The 23-year-old defensemen was acquired from Chicago in a multi player deal last January and succeeded with the Barracuda (AHL) across 35 games played, picking up two goals, 14 points and 28 PIMs. He is expected to compete for one of San Jose's final defensive spots in training camp but should be another key member of the Barracuda's back line.

Allan made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2024-25 season, scoring eight points (1G / 7A) in 43 games, but has spent the entire 2025-26 season in the AHL. The 22-year-old defenseman has 10 points (2G / 8A) in 20 games with the Barracuda.



Allan was drafted 32nd overall by the Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut last season, scoring eight points (1G / 7A) in 43 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, but has spent the entirety of the 2025-26 season in the AHL.

The 21-year-old Allan is averaging 15:08 time-on-ice and has eight points (1G / 7A) through 43 games in his first NHL season. The Blackhawks have recalled Wyatt Kaiser from Rockford (AHL) in a corresponding move.

T.J. Brodie will draw back into Chicago's lineup on Thursday against the Vegas Golden Knights, resulting in Allan being a healthy scratch. The 21-year-old Allan is averaging 15:08 time-on-ice and has eight points (1G / 7A) through 43 games in his first NHL season.

Veteran defenseman Alec Martinez will not play on Thursday due to a lower-body injury, allowing Allan to enter the Blackhawks' lineup.
