Buffalo acquired the rights to Olen Zellweger last week for Anton Wahlberg and a 2026 2nd round pick and has now signed the defender to a three-year deal worth $3.1M AAV ($9.3M total). The 22-year-old will join Buffalo after three solid seasons in Anaheim which saw him surpass 7+ goals and 20+ points twice. He is expected to fill the void left by Bowen Byram being traded to Chicago for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Zellweger was drafted 34th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and had an impressive 2025-26 season with the Ducks, scoring 22 points (7G / 15A) and averaging 16:59 time-on-ice in 76 games. With Bowen Byram's recent departure from Buffalo, the 22-year-old Zellweger looks poised to see an elevated role in 2026-27 with his new team.


Zellweger will immediately re-enter the lineup after sitting out Tuesday's game in Vancouver. He'll fill the spot left by Troy Terry's undisclosed injury.


Drew Helleson will draw back into Anaheim's lineup on Friday against the Dallas Stars, resulting in Zellweger being a healthy scratch. The 22-year-old Zellweger will sit for the first time this season. He has 14 points (5G / 9A) in 34 games this season.

Zellweger will be the odd-man out on the blue-line for Anaheim's regular season finale on Wednesday. Pavel Mintyukov will draw into the lineup in his place.

Zellweger will slot in for Pavel Mintyukov on the Ducks blue-line on Tuesday. Zellweger has seven goals and 13 assists in 61 games this season.


Zellweger was a surprise scratch on Tuesday, with the team not announcing his absence prior to warmups. Pavel Mintyukov will draw into the lineup in his place.


Zellweger will draw out into the Ducks lineup along with Ross Johnston and Nikita Nesterenko. Brett Leason, Sam Colangelo, and Drew Helleson will all draw out of the lineup.

Drew Helleson will draw back into Anaheim's lineup on Tuesday against the Washington Capitals, sending Zellweger to the press box as a healthy scratch. The 21-year-old Zellweger is averaging 19:22 time-on-ice and has eight points (4G / 8A) in 35 games this season.


Pavel Mintyukov will draw back into Anaheim's lineup on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames, resulting in Zellweger being a healthy scratch. The 21-year-old Zellweger has been impressive on Anaheim's blue line this season, averaging 19:27 time-on-ice and scoring 12 points (4G / 8A) in 34 games.

Zellweger will get the chance to slot back into Anaheim's lineup on Friday after serving as a healthy scratch for each of the last three games. Pavel Mintyukov will sit in his place.



Zellweger was a surprise absence on Thursday and was not announced as a scratch prior to warmups. Jackson Lacombe will draw into the lineup in his place while Pavel Mintyukov will likely fill Zellweger's spot on Anaheim's first power-play unit.
