The Blackhawks have signed Patrick Sharp to a one-year deal worth $800K.

After spending two years in Dallas, Sharp hit the open market and returns to Chicago on a value deal. Sharp’s production dropped off with the Stars, only scoring 28 goals in 124 games in two seasons. Back with the Blackhawks, he should see regular time in their top-6 with Marian Hossa sidelined for the season.

Sharp has been out since October 20th, but was back on the ice on Tuesday in a no-contact jersey and appears to be nearing a return to the lineup. It doesn’t look like he will play vs. the Avalanche on Thursday, but a Saturday return seems likely.

Sharp snapped a 19-game goal-less streak with two goals on six shots in the Blackhawks win over the Sharks on Saturday. With Sharp on the top-line, Kris Versteeg looks like he will be a healthy scratch.

Sharp will skate on the Blackhawks fourth line on Monday.

Sharp has three goals and four assists (7 points) in nine games since returning from a leg injury, but tonight he will skate with Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith on the Hawks’ fourth line. With Brad Richards coming back someone had to be bumped down, but it is surprising to see it be Sharp.
