Patrik Elias News

Elias (groin) will not play on Thursday.

Elias suffered the groin injury in the Devils loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. New Jersey will also be without Jaromir Jagr, who has the flu, leaving them with Scott Gomez, who made his season debut on Tuesday, as the only healthy member of their first line. They will recall a forward this afternoon.

Elias (upper-body) will join the Devils in Colorado and is expected to play on Thursday.

Elias will miss his seventh straight game tonight, but should play on Thursday. He has been sidelined since December 31 because of an upper-body injury he suffered vs. Pittsburgh. Elias has recorded 25 points (7G / 18A) in 33 games.

Elias (back spasms) was activated off of IR and is expected to play Friday.

Elias participated in practice again this morning and hopes to be in the lineup tonight. Being activated is a good indicator that he will play. Elias has three goals and seven points in 10 games. He will skate with Damien Brunner and Michael Ryder tonight.

Elias (back spasms) hopes to return to the lineup tomorrow vs. L.A.

Elias returned to practice today which is a good sign he is ready to return after missing the last six games. The Devils desperately need an infusion of offence in their lineup, so hopefully for New Jersey fans, Elias will provide the team with a much needed spark. Monitor his status tomorrow.

Elias (illness) appears to be back in tonight vs. the Canucks.

Elias missed the last two games with an illness but was taking line rushes with Andrei Loktionov and Jaromir Jagr this morning, suggesting he has recovered and will play tonight. He has two goals and two assists in seven games.

Elias who was placed on the IR on Monday (retroactive to last week) with a groin injury will play in the Devils season opener tomorrow.

Elias is expected to open the season as the first line centre with Damian Brunner and Ryane Clowe on his wings. Even at 37-years-old he is one of fantasy's most durable and consistent forwards. He has only missed two games in the last three seasons and would have been on pace for his third consecutive 60-plus point season last year, had it been an 82-game schedule. Deploy Elias as you would.

Elias, the Devils all-time leading scorer, signed a three-year contract for $16.5 million total—an annual cap hit of $5.5 million.

Elias is 37 now and is still putting up respectable point totals. Elias appears to be as safe a draft pick as Selanne in the twilight years of his career.
