Copley will start Thursday vs. the Avalanche.

Copley allowed three goals on 17 shots after replacing Braden Holtby in the Capitals loss in Chicago on January 20th. Copley has struggled over the course of the last month, allowing a combined 15 goals on the last 94 shots (.840 SV%) that he has faced. In his first start against Colorado this season, Copley stopped 24 of 26 shots in a 3-2 overtime win (Nov.16).

The Capitals have signed Pheonix Copley to a three-year extension worth $3.3 million ($1.1M AAV).

The Capitals backup has appeared in 19 games this season, going 10-5-3 while ranking 33rd in GAA (2.98) and SV% (.903). Copley has been a fine backup for Braden Holtby and will likely continue to start 30 percent of the Capitals games moving forward.

Copley stopped 10 of 11 shots after replacing a banged up Braden Holtby in the Capitals 2-1 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday. With a back-to-back on Monday/Tuesday, Copley will give Holtby another day to recover by starting tonight vs. the Blues. The 26-year-old has gone 3-0-2 with a 2.28 GAA and .924 SV% on home-ice.

Copley allowed two goals on 29 shots in the Capitals overtime loss in Dallas last Friday. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Copley, who is 9-2-2 with a 2.56 GAA, .915 SV% and one shutout on the season. Most of his starts have come on the road but he is 2-0-1 with a 2.13 GAA and .926 SV% in his three appearances on home-ice.
