The Oilers have signed Riley Sheahan to a one-year contract.

Sheahan played in Pittsburgh and Florida last season, totalling just 19 points (9G / 10A) in 82 games. He was once a first-round pick of Ken Holland’s in Detroit and the familiarity with the 27-year-old led to him signing in Edmonton. He never developed like the Red Wings had hoped, posting a career-high of just 36 points, so look for him to settle in as the Oilers No.4 centre in 2020.

The Penguins re-signed Riley Sheahan to a one-year, $2.1M deal.

Sheahan was acquired from the Red Wings early in the season, and scored 11 goals with 21 assists (32 points) in 73 games with the Penguins. Sheahan posted a horrible -6.0 relative Corsi with the Penguins, but earned another season with them. He will likely serve as their No.4 centre with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Derick Brassard ahead of him on the depth chart.

Sheahan (upper-body) will be back in the Red Wings lineup on Thursday.

Sheahan was scheduled to be back in the lineup on Tuesday, but he was scratched because of a setback. It was obviously only a minor setback because Sheahan has been cleared to return tonight vs. the Bruins. Sheahan will centre the Red Wings centre line with Darren Helm and Tomas Tatar on his wings.

Sheahan has been bumped up to the Red Wings' top power-play unit.

Sheahan had been playing on the Red Wings second power-play unit, but he will switch spots with Darren Helm as the net-front presence on the Wings top-unit. Sheahan has just one assist through five games, but this move should help him pick up some power-play points in the short-term.

The Red Wings have signed center Riley Sheahan to a two-year contract extension worth $950,000 per season.

Sheahan, 22, is coming off a solid rookie season. Recalled from the Grand Rapids midway through the season due to the Red Wings' rash of injuries, Sheahan quickly established himself a dependable two-way player. He provided more offense than was expected, with nine goals and 15 assists, along with a plus-6 rating, in 42 games. Sheahan was one of the club's restricted free agents.

The Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from Grand Rapids (AHL).

Sheahan has scored three goals while adding eight assists (11 points) in 18 games wit the Red Wings this season. He has displayed an impressive ability to be a productive playmaker at the NHL level in a short period of time with Detroit. The Red Wings will need their 2010 first round pick to continue to play well while Stephen Weiss and Henrik Zetterberg remain out of the lineup.
