Rudolfs Balcers News

The Panthers have signed Rudolfs Balcers to a one-year contract worth $750K.

Balcers was originally drafted by the Sharks in 2015 but was traded to Ottawa as a part of the Erik Karlsson deal in 2018. He found his way back to San Jose via waivers in 2021 and had a career-best 23 points (11G / 12A) in 61 games with San Jose last season. He provides the Panthers a little depth at left wing and can move up and down the lineup.

Balcers (upper-body) is expected to be back in the Sharks lineup on Saturday.

Balcers missed the last four games with an upper-body injury but is set to play Saturday vs. the Predators. In Friday's practice, Balcers skated on the top line and second power-play unit because Alexander Barabanov is questionable with a non-COVID illness.

Balcers had two goals in three games since returning to the lineup but will not be in the lineup for at least two games after being added to the COVID-19 protocol list on Wednesday. Alexander Barabanov was activated from the same list and took his spot on the top line in practice.

The Sharks have signed Rudolfs Balcers to a two-year contract extension worth $3.1 million ($1.55M AAV).

Balcers was claimed off of waivers from the Senators in January and went on to score eight goals and nine assists (17 points) in 41 games with San Jose. Balcers showed he was capable of playing in the Sharks' top-6 at times in 2021 but is probably best suited to play on their third-line.
