The Canucks have acquired Sven Baertschi from the Flames for a 2nd round pick.

Baertschi, 21, is a former first round pick (13th overall) in 2011, but he never panned out in Calgary. He is set to become a restricted free agent in the offseason, but he let the Flames know that he would not be re-signing, so they had to move him. He is a speedy winger, who fits better into the Canucks system, but will report to Utica (AHL) for now.

The Flames have recalled Sven Baertschi from Adirondack (AHL).

Baertschi, 22, has three assists in 10 games with Adirondack so far this season. The 2011 first round pick (13th overall) has had his struggles in his first three years with the Flames, but with a brash of injuries to their forwards, he will get another shot. He has recorded 24 points (8G / 16A) in 51 career NHL games, but has never been able to stick with the big club.

The Flames have assigned Sven Baertschi to Abbotsford (AHL).

Baertschi struggled in his 26 games with the Flames. He registered only two goals and nine assists with a minus-4 rating. He was the 13th overall pick in 2011 after he ripped up the Western Hockey league, but he has not developed into the scoring threat the Flames envisioned when they selected him. However this is common with young players and Sven is only 21-years-old and still has a bright future ahead of him. He heads to Abbotsford to develop his game and could find himself back in Calgary soon.
