Troy Brouwer News

Winger Troy Brouwer isn’t on the ice for practice Wednesday at KCI after not playing in the final 4 minutes and 34 seconds of Washington’s 5-4 overtime win against Anaheim Tuesday night.

Brouwer is out with what looks like a right shoulder injury, a big blow considering he was lining up on the top line.

No official update on Troy Brouwer, who didn't play in the final 2:16 of regulation or OT. Certainly looked like a right shoulder injury.

The winger currently scored a goal and four points over his first 10 games with the Caps. Should he not be able to play, keep an eye out for who replaces him on the top line.

With the Blackhawks in town and Chicago media asking about Troy Brouwer, the Caps' coach let it out that he envisions the big right wing playing with Alex Ovechkin in the season opener agains the Hurricanes.

Expect Brouwer to make his way onto the top PP unit as well since his seven PP tied Alex Ovechkin and Mike Knuble for the team lead last season. Look for 20 goals and around 50-55 points over a full season.

Troy Brouwer is expected to make his Caps debut Monday against Columbus at Verizon Center, Coach Bruce Boudreau said.

Brouwer playing on Monday assures he starts the regular season on time. He scored 17 goals and 36 points last season with the Chicago Blackhawks. The 26-year-old should have no problem replicating those totals playing with Alex Ovechkin or Alexander Semin.

As he recovered from shoulder surgery this offseason, Troy Brouwer’s goal has remained to be ready for opening night of the 2011-12 regular season. So far, he is on schedule to do just that.

Good news, as Brouwer was expected to miss some playing time this season. Last season, Brouwer scored 17 goals and 36 points while shuffling between the first and third lines. No reason to expect he can't repeat such success in the high-octane Caps system.
