Barring any setbacks, Filppula (ankle) is expected to return on Thursday.
Despite not being able to go to Sochi, the two-week break allowed Filppula's broken ankle to heal to the point where he should only miss one game. He missed the first game before the break, but should be back in the lineup on Thursday.
Filppula will the Olympics with a non-displaced fracture in his right hand.

Filppula is playing tonight for Wings.
Filppula who has missed the Red Wings last seven games with the shoulder injury will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Flames. He will play on a line with Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner.
Looks like Filppula is in Wednesday against Calgary.

Wings said Filppula, who hasn't been on ice said last Sunday due to left shoulder injury, won't play Sunday and is day to day.
This will be the third consecutive game Filppula will have missed. He has just 10 points in 19 games . The Red Wings will look for him to step up when he returns to the lineup.

Just when you thought the Red WIngs were going to start getting healthy again another key piece of the Red Wings offense goes down. Filppula won't play tomorrow but he isn't expected to be out long term.

He's not happy with Filppula's play and basically said he needs to get it together.
Filppula lined up with Zetterberg and Brunner in practice so he can't ask for a better situation. If you are looking for points on Sunday, he might be worth a waiver pickup.

The Red Wings have several players who can perform better in 2011-12, none more so than a trio of top-six forwards -- Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula and Jiri Hudler -- who coach Mike Babcock said need to have "bounce-back years."
Filppula continues to tease fantasy hockey owners with a highly talented game that could easily elevate into a true scorer. However, his 35-40 point outputs have fallen well short of those predictions. He could approach 50 points if he remains Henrik Zetterberg's left wing.
