Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers have signed Zack Kassian to a three-year extension worth $5.85M ($1.95M AAV).

It seems like forever ago that Kassian was selected No.13 overall and after a few tough seasons and stops in Buffalo, Vancouver and Montreal, Kassian seems to have found a home in Edmonton. In his second season with the Oilers, the power-forward had 23 points (7G / 17A) in 79 games and added three more goals in 13 playoff games.

Kassian will make his Oilers debut on Thursday.

Kassian, who was traded in the preseason to Montreal, never played a game with the Habs. After being acquired by the Oilers, he collected one goal in four games with the Bakersfield Condors. He is a big body presence and could work his way up the lineup, but expect him to start in the bottom-6 on Thursday.

The Canadiens have placed Zack Kassian on waivers.

Kassian who has not played yet this season after being entered into the Substance Abuse program in the preseason has been placed on waivers for purpose of assignment to the AHL. The former 1st round pick has not lived up to expectations, but a team in need of a big body, that believes in second chances, could elect to take a flier on Kassian.

Kassian is out indefinitely with a fractured left foot and nose.

Kassian’s injury were reportedly “minor” on Sunday, but this afternoon the Canadiens revealed the injuries were more serious and will force him to miss time. Kassian has a bad reputation after underachieving in Buffalo and Vancouver but he was given a fresh start in Montreal, that has not gotten off on the right foot.
