Zack Smith News

Smith (back) will undergo surgery on March 6th and will miss the rest of the 2020 season.

Smith has been sidelined by a back injury since February 12th and it requires surgery, which will end his 2020 campaign. Smith finishes the season with 11 points (4G / 7A) in 50 games.

Smith (illness) will be a game-time decision on Wednesday.

Smith missed the morning skate with flu-like symptoms but it sounds like he's likely to play vs. the Avalanche. Smith, who has five points (1G / 4A) in 27 games this season, is expected to skate on the fourth line with David Kampf and Matthew Highmore.

The Blackhawks have acquired Zack Smith from the Senators for Artem Anisimov.

Smith had a career-year in 2016, scoring 25 goals with 11 assists (36 points) but has just 14 goals and 33 assists (47 points) in the last two seasons combined. With RFA Brendan Perlini still in need of a contract, the Blackhawks clear $1.3M by swapping Anisimov for Smith. The 31-year-old probably doesn’t have the same offensive upside as Anisimov, but should settle in as a quality bottom-6 option for Chicago, who has completely re-tooled that part of their roster this offseason.

The Senators have placed Zack Smith on waivers.

Smith has three-years left on his contract, that has a modified no-trade clause. Placing him on waivers may be a way around the no-trade, but Smith is one of the better forwards on a bad Senators team and giving him away for nothing seems counterproductive. The 30-year-old had 19 points (5G / 14A) in 68 games a season ago.

Smith (shoulder) will be back in the Senators lineup on Friday.

Smith has missed the last five games with a shoulder injury, but will return tonight vs. the Sharks. Smith has struggled this season, picking up just eight points (2G / 8A) with an ugly minus-15 rating in 24 games.

Smith suffered a shoulder injury on Thursday; could miss up to two weeks.

Smith came into the game as a game-time decision and suffered a shoulder injury in the contest. He will be out until early-January, so Chris DiDomenico has been recalled from Belleville (AHL).

Smith (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision.

The Senators said that Smith is a little banged up and is a game-time decision for Thursday’s game. The Senators recalled Filip Chlapik from Belleville (AHL) and he is expected to replace Smith if he is unable to play.
