Girgensons is dealing with an undisclosed injury, so he'll come out of the lineup on Saturday to open up a roster spot for Tage Thompson to be reinserted into the lineup.

Girgensons will miss the entire 2021 season after suffering a serious hamstring injury. Girgensons led all Sabres forwards in shorthanded ice-time a season ago and they also lost Johan Larsson in free agency, so the Sabres will have to completely retool their penalty kill this season.

Girgensons scored 12 goals with seven assists (19 points) in 69 games in 2020. Girgensons is locked into a fourth-line role for the Sabres. He led all Buffalo forwards in hits (110) and PK TOI/GM (2:08) last season. Offensively, he hasn't topped 20 points since 2015.

Girgensons missed Friday's practice with a lower-body injury so his status for Saturday's game is in doubt. Michael Frolik will draw back into the lineup if Girgensons can't play.

Girgensons, who has just one assist in his last seven games, is expected to miss at least a few weeks with an upper-bod injury he suffered on Thursday. With Girgensons out, Remi Elie will likely become a regular in the lineup.

Girgensons was reportedly banged up in the Sabres’ come-from-behind win over the Sharks on Tuesday and will not play tonight vs. the Ducks. With Girgensons out, the Sabres have recalled Derek Grant from Rochester (AHL).
