Predators sign Borowiecki to one year extension

Mark Borowiecki has been extended through the 2022-23 NHL season by the Nashville Predators, according to the team’s official Twitter account.

Borowiecki will be making $900,000 next season after making $2 million a season for the past two years for the Predators.

The defenseman is more known for his tough, stay-at-home style of play, and has never been much of a points getter. He has just three assists in 61 games with the Predators since signing with them in the 2020 offseason.

Borowiecki had previously played for the Ottawa Senators, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2008. He played 375 games for the Sens, with just 15 goals and 51 points with them, including a career high seven goals and 18 points in his final year with them in 2019-20.

Despite a lengthy career, Borowiecki has only found himself in just eight playoff games, all for the Senators. Six of them came in 2014-15 when they lost to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, but he only played two during the Senators conference finals run in 2016-17.

With Borowiecki signed, the Predators have just five UFAs and three RFAs to re-sign on their NHL roster, with roughly $26 million in cap space to work with at this point. The biggest of those names is Filip Forsberg, who’s in the final year of his six year, $6 million AAV contract.
