The Chicago Blackhawks will be without Seth Jones after the rearguard tested positive for COVID-19, The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline reported Tuesday.

The team is set to play Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets whom Jones played six seasons for in what would’ve been a homecoming for the rearguard.

Jones was acquired by the Blackhawks last July in a blockbuster deal. This season, he’s appeared in 35 games for Chicago scoring three goals and 25 points while averaging the most ice time at any point of his career.

Chicago traded away a first-round pick in 2021 used to select Cole Sillinger, a conditional first-round pick in 2022, a 2021 second-round pick used to take Aleksi Heimosalmi and defenceman Adam Boqvist to acquire Jones, who came alongside a 2021 first-round pick used to take Nolan Allen and a 2022 6th round pick.

Not long after his acquisition, Chicago signed him to a massive eight-year deal paying him an AAV of $9.5-million. The highly controversial move doesn’t kick in until the 2022-23 season and has a full no-move clause.
