Report: Peter Chiarelli to interview for front-office role with Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks are expediting interviews for vacant front-office roles and Peter Chiarelli is set to be one this weekend, TSN’s Darren Dreger reports.

On TSN’s Insider Trading segment Thursday, Dreger reported the club is looking to expedite their search for a permanent general manager or head of hockey operations:

“A number of candidates have been identified with varying levels of experience. But here’s an interesting name for you. Sources indicate that Peter Chiarelli, who is working with Doug Armstrong and the St. Louis Blues, has been contacted by the Chicago Blackhawks and will interview for their hockey operations vacancy, among others. This could move very quickly. The interviewing process is expected to begin this weekend and into early next week.”

Chiarelli has served various roles across the league since 1999, when he joined the Ottawa Senators as their director of legal relations. He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2004, a role he held for two years, before being hired as the Boston Bruins’ general manager in 2006. Chiarelli held the role until 2015, before spending four seasons with the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton fired Chiarelli partway through the 2019 season, marking the end of a tumultuous time in Alberta’s capital. He wasn’t out of work for long, however, as the St. Louis Blues named him senior advisor in 2019, a role he held for two seasons, before being promoted to vice-president of hockey operations this season.
