Report: Washington Capitals acquire Connor Brown from Ottawa Senators

The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Connor Brown from the Ottawa Senators, TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday.

Reports surfaced earlier in the day the Edmonton Oilers were one of the teams believed to be involved in Brown, however, the Caps appear to be the team to get the deal done.

The 28-year-old appeared in 64 games this year with the Sens scoring 10 goals and a career high 29 points in 64 games. He’s been a strong two-way forward for the Senators in recent years.

According to hockeyviz.com, Brown provided even-strength offence this year at a three percent rate above league average and even-strength defence at a three percent rate above league average. At 5×5 with Brown on the ice, the Senators controlled 50.26 percent of the shot attempts, 44.58 percent of the goals scored and 48.58 percent of the expected goal share. While these numbers look a bit low, he also had a 98.1 PDO suggesting he had a bad year in terms of luck.

Brown has one year left on a deal paying him an AAV of $3.6-million.
