San Jose Sharks scout, former NHL player Bryan Marchment dead at 53

Known for his tough demeanor on the ice, Bryan Marchment, an NHL veteran of 926 games, has died at the age of 53.

Marchment broke into the NHL in the 1990-91 season with the Winnipeg Jets after being drafted by them 16th overall three years prior. His time there didn’t last long before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks.

By the end of his 17 year career, Marchment found himself donning the jersey of nearly a dozen teams: the Jets, the Blackhawks, the Hartford Whalers, the Edmonton Oilers, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the San Jose Sharks and later in his career, stints with the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.

After retiring after the 2005-06 season, Marchment took two years off before transitioning back into hockey. He joined the San Jose Sharks in 2007-08 as an amateur scout — a role he held through his passing.

His impact on the organization wasn’t just there. Throughout his tenure, Marchment also served stints as a development coach, focusing on the defensive side of the puck.

Marchment leaves behind a wife, a son, Florida Panthers forward Mason Marchment, and a daughter, Logan.
