We have some late trade deadline deals sneaking in, as the Seattle Kraken have acquired Victor Rask from the Minnesota Wild for future considerations.

Rask is in the final season of a six year contract with a $4-million cap hit that he originally signed with the Carolina Hurricanes. The Wild then acquired Rask in a one-for-one swap for Nino Niederreiter in 2018-19, and he’s spent the last three and a half seasons with the Wild. Minnesota will retain 50 perent of his contract in the deal.

Rask has just five goals and 13 points in 29 games this season in the NHL, although he’s a point per game player in the AHL in 10 games. He had a solid season last year with 23 points in 54 games, although a lot of that came with Kirill Kaprizov on the ice.

At this moment, Rask will report to the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate that the Kraken split with the Florida Panthers.

The Wild likely made the move to adjust their cap situation after all the deals they made earlier in the day, as they’re currently projected to have a bit more than $1.25 million in cap space after the deal. They made a couple trades earlier today, bringing in Marc-Andre Fleury for a conditional second-round pick, and then followed that by trading Kaapo Kahkonen to the San Jose Sharks for Jacob Middleton.
