Spezza Won’t Object to a Trade?

According to TSN, Jason Spezza won’t object to a trade. He in no way demanded a trade but GM Bob Murray did say on record he perhaps thought it was time.  This article, of course led to numerous fake rumors which were eventually shot down.

Does moving from Ottawa affect his fantasy value?

Spezza watched his points totals decrease for the third straight season, so maybe a change of scenery would help him regain that scoring touch.  This past season he missed 22 games but finished with almost a point-per-game pace including 24 points in his final 19 games.  A return to that production would make him a top tier center once again, making you wonder why Sens fans really want to lose the gifted playmaker.

Chances are Murray will fail to receive similar value when a player like Patrick Marleau can be obtained at a similar rate and without giving up young assets.  If Spezza does not move by July 1st, he will hold all the cards as his no-trade clause kicks in.

At 27-years-old Spezza is one of the true wildcards in fantasy hockey.  He could play at a point-per-game pace and help carry your team or finish with 70 points like plenty of similar pivots.  In the +/- department he finished as a -14 over the last two years and similarly seen his PIM decrease from 79 t0 20.

There may be better options or he could be the sleeper of the year.  Time will tell, but if moved to a strong contender he will be an incredibly interesting player come draft time.
