The Flyers completed their second signing of the day Friday as they extended 25-year-old centre Ryan Poehling for two-years, and $3.8 million ($1,900,000 AAV). The fourth year pro is having a career year in his first season in Philadelphia with five goals, nine assists, 55 SOG, six PIMs and a -8 plus/minus through 44 games played.

Johnston will take the place of Bo Groulx, who will be a healthy scratch. Johnston is yet to score a goal in 34 games this season.

With the Blackhawks on the back end of their road back-to-back games, Petr Mrazek will take the net Thursday in Edmonton. The 31-year-old is fresh off of signing a two-year, $8.5 million contract on Wednesday and has a 12-17-1 record, 3.01 GAA and .907 SV%. He takes on the red-hot Edmonton Oilers, who are on a historic 14 game winning streak and rank fourth in the NHL in goals per game (3.51).

Husso has not played since December 18th, when he suffered a lower-body injury, and, as a result, has been loaned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL for a conditioning stint before returning to the Red Wings. Husso, sporting a 3.53 GAA and .893 SV% through 18 games (9-5-2-), will likely serve as the backup to Alex Lyon upon his return.

Mrazek's 3.01 GAA and .907 SV% are his best totals in three seasons, considerably more impressive considering he plays for the defensively troubled Blackhawks. As a result of his strong play, Mrazek has been rewarded with a two-year, $8.5 million ($4,250,000 AAV) contract extension. He should continue to see an edge in starts over Arvid Soderblom for the remainder of the season.

Johnston will sit to make room for Brock McGinn, who will draw back into the lineup. Johnston has no goals and two assists in 34 games this season.

Zellweger was the 34th overall pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and could make his NHL debut on Tuesday night. In 34 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL, Zellweger has 25 points (8G / 17A).

Mrazek has won two straight and will return to the crease for the Blackhawks on Monday evening. Mrazek has been impressive lately for a low-scoring Blackhawks club, allowing three or fewer goals in six straight (3-3-0), posting a stellar .923 SV%. That said, Mrazek and the Blackhawks are +356 road underdogs against the Vancouver Canucks, who have won two straight and lead the league offensively, averaging 3.83 goals per game.

Dostal allowed five goals on 41 shots in the Ducks’ loss in Tampa last Saturday. John Gibson has started the last three games but Dostal will make his 18th appearance tonight vs. the Rangers. Dostal has played much better in Anaheim this season, posting a 2.99 GAA and .918 SV% in seven games, however it’s led to just two wins.

Mrazek will be back between the pipes for the Blackhawks on Friday after getting Thursday night off in favour of back-up netminder Arvid Soderblom. Mrazek has been in good form of late, posting a .929 SV% across his last five starts, though a predictable lack of goal support from his fellow Blackhawks means he's only been able to scrape together a pair of wins across that stretch. The 12-year-veteran has managed to post a respectable .907 SV% and an 11-16-1 record on the season despite playing behind one of the most underwhelming lineups in the league. As per usual, Mrazek and the Blackhawks find themselves as big underdogs on Friday, even on home ice, with the Islanders being favoured at -250 in Chicago.

Granlund suffered a significant upper-body injury, and although he will not need surgery, he is expected to be out on a week-to-week basis. With 29 points (5G / 24A) in 38 games, Granlund was pacing for his second-best point output in the last six seasons.

Robert Hagg will take his place in the lineup as Gudas was a late scratch due to the lower-body injury. Gudas has six goals and five assists in 38 games this season.

Despite failing to register a win, Mrazek is amid a strong three-game stretch in which he has allowed only two goals in each contest, posting a .917 SV% against a series of difficult opponents. Mrazek will likely return to the crease on Monday against a more favourable foe, as the Blackhawks are a rare -145 home favourite against a San Jose Sharks team that was shut out 3-0 yesterday afternoon and has lost 14 of their last 15 games (1-14-0).
