Boston Bruins News

Charlie McAvoy is expected to make his season debut vs. the Flames Thursday (Shoulder).

McAvoy has not played this season as he recovered from eft shoulder arthroscopic stabilization surgery on June 3. McAvoy returns to the Bruins' lineup ahead of schedule and will likely slot right back in atop their top defensive pair and power-play unit. He finished 2021-22 with a career-high 10 goals and 56 points across 78 games while finishing with 21 PPP.

Jeremy Swayman is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Swayman left Tuesday's game vs Pittsburgh in the third period and will be week-to-week with a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old netminder made four of four stops in a relief role of Linus Ullmark before the injury caused him to leave the crease. In four games played this season, he has a 2-1-0 record to go along with his .878 SV% and 3.45 GAA.

The 23-year-old netminder made four of four stops in a relief role of Linus Ullmark before the injury caused him to leave the crease. He will be evaluated on Thursday for further updates. In four games played this season, he has a 2-1-0 record to go along with his .878 SV% and 3.45 GAA.

Charlier McAvoy was seen practising in a regular jersey Monday

McAvoy was surprisingly on the ice in a non-contact jersey Monday after missing all of the 2022-23 season so far due to off-season shoulder surgery. It was a nice surprise as McAvoy was not expected back until closer to the new year. McAvoy enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22, reaching double-digit goals (10) for the first time while putting up 56 points (10G/46A) in 78 games played.

Swayman will start Thursday vs. the Red Wings.

Swaymans last start came over a week ago when he allowed six goals on 25 shots (.760 SV%) in a 7-5 loss to Ottawa. The 23-year-old netminder has struggled early on this season, posting a 5.40 GAA along with a .816 SV% while essentially losing the starting goalie battle to Linus Ullmark. He will face a Detroit team who is coming off a 6-2 loss Tuesday to New Jersey but has scored at a very efficient rate this season, ranking fifth in the NHL in GF/GP (3.67).

Swayman will start Saturday vs. the Coyotes.

Swayman will get his first start of the 2022-23 season Saturday for the 1-0-0 Bruins. The 23-year-old netminder has enjoyed a strong two-year career with the Bruins so far, winning 30 of his 49 starts while allowing a 2.23 GAA alongside a .920 SV%.

McAvoy (shoulder) is expected to be out until late November/early December.

McAvoy underwent a shoulder procedure in early June and the expected recovery was six months. McAvoy should miss roughly 20-to-25 games to open the season and Hampus Lindholm should play big minutes and could be the quarterback on the No.1 PP unit while McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk are on the mend.

The Flames have re-signed Nikita Zadorov to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.

Zadorov is a huge (6-6, 235), physical defenseman, who had 22 points (4G / 18A) in 74 games with the Flames a season ago. The 27-year-old led Flames' defensemen in hits (181) and could take on a larger penalty killing role in 2022-23 with Erik Gudbranson now in Columbus.

The Bruins have acquired Pavel Zacha from the Devils for Erik Haula.

Zacha is a pending RFA who is coming off of a three-year deal worth $2.25M AAV. The 2015 No.6 overall pick has never fully unlocked the offensive potential he flashed as a Sarnia Sting (OHL). The 25-year-old is coming off of a 15-goal, 21-assist (36 points) season in 2021-22.
