“Val is going back in,” Lindy Ruff said. “This was to recharge Val and get him going again. It’s hard, because we miss him when he’s out of the lineup, we miss the Val that had lots of energy and skated well. It’s hard to say an 18-year-old is a big part of our team, but he’s a big part of our team, and when he’s going well, we’re a better team.” Those are pretty complimentary words for Nichushkin, who has 22 points (9G / 13A) in 46 games. There is no word on how the Stars lines will shake out, but we guess that coach Ruff goes back to his old lines, which will see Nichushkin skating with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn.
If Johnson is unable to play, Karl Stollery will enter the lineup. Johnson has not recorded a point in his last five games, but has 20 points (7G / 13A) with a plus-13 rating in 48 games this season. Monitor his status during pre-game warmups.
As expected, Parise is ramping up his on-ice workouts this week as he works towards being in the lineup on Thursday. Monitor Parise's progress as Thursday draws near.
Helm has only played in one game since December 4 and has missed the last seven games leading up to tonight's meeting with the Blues. In 16 games this season, Helm has played very well recording seven goals and four assists (11 points) to go along with a plus-6 rating. He will skate on a line with Tomas Tatar and Drew Miller tonight in Detroit.
Helm is centering a like with Tomas Tatar and Drew Miller and also participating in penalty kill drills which would suggest he will be back tonight vs. St. Louis. We will have an official update following the morning skate.
Parise has missed 13 games because of a broken foot, said he might begin ramping it up during Monday’s practice by taking contact and getting into more gamelike situations. “I’m just waiting for the green light to get him more involved in practice,” Wild head coach Mike Yeo said.
Parise skated on his own yesterday, but is practicing with the full squad today. This is great news for Wild fans and Parise owners, he should be back before the Olympic break.
Johnson played just 12:45 before retiring to the dressing room for the night. Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy said that he "hopes that [Johnson] is day-to-day. We will provide an update as soon as there is word from the Avs medical staff.
Parise will miss his 11th consecutive game tonight, but skating is a step in the right direction. There is still no firm timetable for Parise's return from the fractured foot, but Team USA is hoping that he will be ready for the Olympics.
Helm is reportedly close to a return, but he is skating as an extra this afternoon, which means he won't be back tonight. Helm's next chance to return is Saturday in Los Angeles.
Cogliano is in his seventh NHL season and third with the Ducks. He is having a career year having posted 14 goals and 11 assists (25 points) in 43 games. His career is 45 points (18G / 27A) that he recorded in his rookie season back in 2007-08. Cogliano is signed through the 2017-18 season.
Helm's return to the lineup was shortlived and he was scratched from the Winter Classic today.
Helm missed the last 11 games with a shoulder injury that he suffered in early December. This is a huge boost for a Red Wings team who are starting to get healthy right before the Winter Classic. We will see if Helm can pick up where he left off, he scored seven goals and had 10 points in 15 games. He will centre the third line with Justin Abdelkader and Tomas Jurco on his wings.
With all of the injuries limiting Detroit, Helm could play a more offensive role for a short period of time.
Not good news for Parise owners. Look for a timetable before you try to sell on Parise, however.
Parise has missed the last two games with what is thought to be a foot injury. Parise's placement on IR is retroactive to December 22 so he would be eligible to play in Tuesday's contest, but it sounds like he will be out longer than that. Parise showed that he can return earlier than expected before, so don't count on him missing games until he is officially ruled out.
Day-to-day could potentially be a few weeks without its first-line left wing. Parise has clearly been hampered on the ice and in pain off of it, and my guess is he probably did further damage to the foot. Last time, it was recommended he miss two to three weeks. He missed one game. “If he’s not a game player, I want to keep him off the ice completely and give him a good chance to heal,” Yeo said.
Parise will miss his second straight game tonight. He is believed to have aggravated a foot injury he was dealing with in November after blocking an Alex Steen shot on Sunday. Nino Niederreiter will shift to the Wild top line with Parise on the shelf.
This will be Parise's second game missed this season, the last with a foot injury that hasn't healed yet. I don't know if this is related. We'll have more from coach Mike Yeo after the game hopefully. Parise has one assist and is minus-7 on the 1-6-1 road slide. Justin Fontaine will draw into the lineup.
