He is due for a poor performance here and there, but they’ve been few and far between so far. The Penguins are torching everyone right now, so Smith was likely pulled in order to keep him fresh for tonight’s game in Detroit. Nurse was having a strong season until he tore ligaments in his ankle in early-December. He will miss up to three months, which means he is sidelined until mid-March, so his 2016-17 regular season shouldn’t be done.

Koekkoek, 22, has picked up four assists in 17 games with the Lightning this season. The former first round pick will return to Syracuse, where he has two assists in five games this season.
