There is no word as to why Kane is absent from the skate, we will await an official word from the Jets.

Smith was pulled on Thursday after giving up four goals on 15 shots in a loss to the Kings. It was Smith's first bad outing in his last four starts, he will look to jump back into the win column today vs. an up-and-down Oilers team.

Smith stopped 22 of 24 shots in a win over the Flames on Tuesday. This was his second win in as many starts, but he draws a tough assignment against the Kings tonight. He was 1-2-0 with a 3.24 GAA and .893 SV% in three starts vs. LA last season.

Smith was excellent against the Red Wings allowing just two goals on 33 shots in a win over the Red Wings on Saturday. Oh yeah he also scored a goal! His strong play recently has lowered his GAA to 2.83 and SV% is way up to .916. He has a strong matchup tonight vs. Calgary.

Smith starts both games in back-to-back.
Smith was busy last night facing 39 shots, he stopped 37 of them in a 3-2 loss to the Ducks. He will go again tonight against the Red Wings. He stopped 28 of 30 shots in a win over Detroit on October 10th.
Kane (leg) is taking part in pre-game warmups, so it appears like he is good to go tonight.
Kane is averaging 20:34 TOI with three goals and two assists in seven games.

Smith allowed four goals on 32 shots in a 4-3 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday. He is now 3-2-1 with a 3.16 GAA and .905 SV%. He has a difficult matchup tonight against a Ducks team who has won five straight.
Jets head coach Claude Noel expects Evander Kane to be in lineup but said he has to see how the warm-up goes.
Consider Kane a game-time decision.
Kane said it wasn't his knee that was bothering him. Not 100 per cent but is ready to go if Claude Noel calls his number.
Expect an update on Kane's status for tonight later in the day.

Kane who left practice yesterday, was not on the ice this morning.
Kane's status for this evening's game remains unknown. Expect an update later in the day. Kane has been dominant to start his fifth NHL season so this would be a huge loss for the Jets.
Winnipeg Jets coach Claude Noel had no information as to the extent of today’s practice injury to left-winger Evander Kane.
"He got a tweak in practice and he’ll get assessed sometime today providing we can get him looked at and we’ll go from there," Noel said. "He’s day-to-day right now. We just need further information and I don’t have it.

Smith allowed five goals on 20 shots before being pulled for Thomas Greiss on Tuesday. He had dominated the Islanders prior to that start so it was a little surprising. He will have a tough time bouncing back tonight against the Red Wings.
