Smith spent the last six seasons in Arizona, but was traded to the Flames this summer and will take over as their No.1 netminder for the 2017-18 season. Smith’s fantasy value improves with the move, as he goes from a team who gave up the second most shots per game (34.1) to a team that gave up the eighth fewest (28.7). However, his Flames career might get off to a rocky start as he goes up against Connor McDavid and the Oilers.

After just one season in Florida, Demers is on the move to his third team in three years after being traded to the Coyotes on Sunday. Arizona was in need of a right-shot defenseman and they have found their man in the 29-year-old Demers. The Canadian-born blueliner is coming off of a season in which he collected a career-high nine goals with 19 assists (28 points) in 81 contests for Florida. With Jakob Chychrun to miss a lot of this season, Demers will slide right into a top-4 role, likely alongside Alex Goligoski.

Smith, 33, was with the Coyotes for the last six seasons, but heads to Calgary to address their need for a No.1 netminder. Smith has had injury issues in his career, but when he is healthy he is capable of starting 60-plus games. The veteran netminder has posted a .911 SV% over the last three seasons while regularly facing more shots than most other goalies. Bringing in Brian Elliott last summer didn’t really work for the Flames, but they’re hoping they’ve finally found the goalie they’ve been searching for since Miikka Kiprusoff retired.
