Jonathan Bernier left the ice first at Honda Center.

This does not always guarantee the starter but in the case of the Kings the first goalie off has started every game this season. Bernier posted a 23-save shutout against Minnesota in his last start. He has another tough assignment tonight as he will face Pacific Division leading Anaheim Ducks.

Jonathan Bernier
Markstrom vs Holtby.

Markstrom has won three straight games with a 2.66 GAA and .925 SV%. In his only start vs. the Caps this season he allowed two goals on the first two shots and was pulled. He will look for a better result this time around, but the Capitals are one of the NHL's hottest teams right now. They have won six out of their last eight games.

Jake Allen gets the nod tonight in goal. #stlblues

Allen gets the call for the second game of a back-to-back. Brian Elliott played well enough yesterday to get the win vs. Chicago. This will be Allen's first start since being recalled, he has a scary matchup vs. a surprising Blue Jackets squad.

Jake Allen
Who starts in goal this evening in Dallas? There’s no morning skate and the Kings don’t announce their starting goaltenders or lineups ahead of time, so it’s not possible to observe who comes off the ice first.

I’m leaning 55-45% in favor of Jonathan Bernier starting on the second night of a back-to-back, but travel and back-to-back games are not firm precedents that determine starting goaltenders in Darryl Sutter’s considerations. Bernier is 7-2-0 with a 1.94 goals against average and .923 save percentage, hasn’t started a game since stopping 40 of 42 shots against Phoenix on March 19, and is yet to face a Dallas team that is 2-0-0 against the Kings.

The Blues have assigned goaltender Jake Allen to the club’s AHL affiliate, Peoria Rivermen.

Allen, 22, has appeared in 12 games with the Blues this season, posting an 8-3-0 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. In 35 games with the Rivermen, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender has a record of 13-19-2 with a 2.89 goals against average, .904 save percentage and two shutouts. Allen is obviously the goalie of the future for the Blues, and only holds value in deep-keeper leagues.

. @j_markstrom first goalie off the ice which usually indicates starter for game. #FlaPanthers

Markstrom is doing his best Panthers-era Luongo impression, posting mediocre win totals (3 wins in 11 starts) but solid peripherals (2.59 GAA and .921 SV%). He has a nice matchup against a struggling Sabres squad and could make for a good spot start if you're in a pinch.

Jake Allen first off the ice. Looks like he's getting the nod against the #oilers. #stlblues

Allen has not started since last Tuesday when he had his five game winning streak snapped. He should be well rested when he faces the Oilers tonight. It is a good matchup for Allen, so he should make for a good start tonight.

Bernier will start the second half of a back-to-back.

Jonathan Quick started last night vs. the Coyotes and stopped all 27 shots that he faced. With Quick starting last night there is no real surprise that it will be Bernier in between the pipes tonight. In his last start he allowed two goals on 22 shots in a winning effort vs. San Jose. The Coyotes are not a good offensive team so Bernier makes a good start tonight.

Jacob Markstrom gets the start for the Panthers in Carolina tonight.

This will be Markstroms first starts since last Tuesday when he lost his fourth straight start. Since being recalled on March 3rd because of Jose Theodore's injury, Markstrom is 1-3-1 with a 3.41 GAA and .875 SV%. It is hard to trust a Panthers goalie this season, because they can't seem to find wins.
