Ilya Sorokin will start Friday vs. the Hurricanes

Sorokin has been perfect so far this week, shutting out the New York Rangers off a 41-save performance his last time out Wednesday. Sorokin has been very solid despite his 2-3-0 record this season, averaging a great 2.26 GAA and .931 SV%. He takes on the Carolina Hurricanes who won their last game 3-2 and ranks third-best in the league in goals against per game (2.33).

Sorokin brings his two-game losing streak into Wednesday's start after allowing a season-high five goals on 26 shots (.808 SV%) in his previous time out in a 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay. He has struggled so far in 2022-23, collecting only one win through his first four starts (1-3-0) while pitching a .908 SV% and 2.83 GA. They will be taking on their inner-state rivals the Rangers at home on Wednesday. The Rangers are coming off a hard-fought 3-2 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche the night before.

Coming off five days of rest after being given the night off Tuesday, Sorokin will be looking to continue his strong play early as he carries a .941 SV% and 1.53 GAA into his third start of the season. He will be taking on a Devils' team at home that is averaging 2.67 goals for with only eight goals through their first three games.
