New York Rangers News

Garand will start vs. Chicago on Friday.

Garand was excellent in his NHL debut last week, saving 35 of 37 shots (.946 SV%) in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets, and will return to the crease on Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks. The 23-year-old Garand was a fourth-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, who has a 2.83 GAA and .896 SV% in 36 games (16-15-2) with Hartford (AHL) this season. The Rangers enter Friday's contest as -178 home favourites against a Blackhawks team that was defeated 5-1 last night by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Shesterkin will start in Toronto on Wednesday.

Shesterkin was excellent in New York's previous outing, saving 31 of 33 shots (.939 SV%), but received very little goal support in a game where his team only managed 10 shots on goal in a 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The 30-year-old Shesterkin has a serviceable 2.88 GAA and .912 SV% in nine games since returning from the Olympic break. The Rangers enter Wednesday's contest as -119 road favourites against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that played last night and won 4-2 over the Boston Bruins.

Shesterkin will start vs. Ottawa on Monday.

After losing 3-2 in a shootout to the Winnipeg Jets yesterday, extending New York's losing streak to four games (0-3-1), the Rangers will turn to Shesterkin on Monday against the Ottawa Senators. The 30-year-old Shesterkin is coming off a forgetful performance, allowing five goals on 36 shots (.861 SV%) in a 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. That said, he has been serviceable since returning from the Olympic break, posting a 2.97 GAA and .906 SV% in nine games (5-2-2). The Rangers enter Monday's contest as +166 home underdogs against a Senators team that is 4-1-0 in its last five games.

Laba is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Laba suffered a lower-body injury vs. the Devils on Wednesday and is going to miss some time. The Rangers labeled the rookie centre as week-to-week, so expect players like Jonny Brodzinski to remain in the lineup for the foreseeable future. If this is the end of Laba's season, he finishes with nine goals and 12 assists (21 points) in 65 games, one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise brutal season in New York.
