Ottawa Senators News

Anderson is in the 'starter's net' at the Senators morning skate.

Anderson stopped all 30 shots that he faced in a 1-0 win in Florida on Monday. Anderson has had a nice start to the season, posting a 1-1 record with a 1.51 GAA and .955 SV%. Should he get the start tonight, he will face a Colorado team who are having a hard time scoring early in the season.

Anderson gets the start in goal for the Senators.

Anderson allowed three goals on 37 shots in Ottawa's 3-2 loss to the Predators on opening night. He sat against the Lightning, but gets back in goal with a nice matchup today vs. Florida. The Panthers have struggled to keep the puck out of the net in the early part of the season, so Anderson has a good chance to chalk up his first W of the year.

Anderson starts the Senators season opener on Thursday.

After a great lockout shortened season, Anderson stumbled to 25 wins with a 3.00 GAA and .911 SV% in 2013-14. He started 2014-15 on a strong note posting a 1.91 GAA and .922 SV% in the preseason. He will start his regular season against the Predators, who he had a 2.20 / and .935 against in two starts last season.

Giroux will be out two weeks after suffering a lower-body injury in training camp.

With the start of the season two and a half weeks away, the Flyers caught a break with the severity of their captain's injury. Still, this is not the way Giroux wanted to start his season. However, it should not hurt his value on draft day, he should be ready for the Flyers' season opener on October 8th.

The Senators signed Craig Anderson to a three-year contract extension worth $12.6 million.

A season after posting an NHL-best .941 SV%, Anderson struggled to a 25-16-8 record with a 3.00 GAA and .911 SV%. Just weeks after the Sens signed Robin Lehner to a three-year extension, they locked up the other half of their goaltending duo through 2017-18. Anderson will start the season as the number-1 and will be looking for a bounce back season; but the team in front of him is looking like a basement dweller.

Craig Anderson
The Senators signed Clarke MacArthur to a five-year extension worth $23.25 million.

MacArthur recorded 24 goals and 31 assists with a plus-12 rating in 79 games with the Senators last season. The 29-year-old has scored 20 goals in each on the last three 82-game seasons so expect fourth straight in 2014-15. On a rundown Senators offence, Mac will once again play a considerable amount of minutes this season.

The Flyers have signed Michael Del Zotto to a one-year deal worth $1.3 million.

With Kimmo TImonen out indefinitely after being treated for blood clots, the Flyers were seeking help on the blueline. They sign the 24-year-old, who had three goals and 13 assists (16 points) in 67 games between the Rangers and Predators. The former first-round pick (20th overall in '08) has seen his play slip in the last few seasons, but comes to Philadelphia on a low-risk one-year deal.

The Rangers and Derick Brassard avoid arbitration by agreeing to terms on a five-year, $25 million deal.

Brassard, 26, set a new career-high in goals (18) and finished the season fourth on the Rangers with 45 points in 81 games last year. In his first full season with New York, Brassard had one of his best seasons and cashed in big-time inking a $5 million dollar per year contract. He had a strong postseason as well, posting 12 points (6G / 6A) in the Rangers Stanley Cup Finals appearance. Expect Brassard to take another step forward as he looks to land a top-6 role and post his first 50-plus point season.

Derick Brassard
Brassard (undisclosed) remains day-to-day, his status for game 3 is unclear.

Consider Brassard a game-time decision after head coach Alain Vigneault called him day-to-day this morning. Brassard missed game 2 after suffering an injury early in game 1. If he is unable to go tonight, Dominic Moore will remain the Rangers' third line centre.

Derick Brassard
Brassard (undisclosed) will not play in game in Montreal.

Brassard was injured on a hit from Mike Weaver early in game 1. He is listed as day-to-day, so the severity of his injury is not clear. Dominic Moore played very well in Brassard's spot, recording two assists in 16:36 TOI; he is expected to play there again tonight, with Dan Carcillo coming in.

Anderson will start on Saturday vs. Toronto.

Anderson made 45 saves on 46 shots in a 4-1 win over the Islanders on Tuesday. It was a great performance from the 32-year-old, who has had a very inconsistent season. This could be his last start of the season and he enters play at 24-16-8 with a 3.06 GAA and .909 SV% on the year. This comes after he had a 1.69 GAA and .941 SV% last season.

Craig Anderson
Anderson gets the nod on Tuesday.

Anderson surrendered seven goals on 23 shots in a 7-4 loss to the Canadiens on Friday. The Habs spotted the Sens a three goal lead in the first period, but fired back with seven unanswered goals. On Tuesday, he draws a good matchup vs. the Isles in a "meaningless" contest for both teams.

Craig Anderson
Anderson starts Friday vs. Montreal.

Anderson allowed two goals on 27 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders on Wednesday. Anderson has been rock-solid in goal since returning from an undisclosed injury. He has won two of three while posting an impressive 1.96 GAA and .944 SV%. Anderson will face the Sens who he is 1-0-1 against this season.

Craig Anderson
Anderson will start for the Senators.

Anderson allowed one goal on 31 shots in a shootout win over the Hurricanes on Monday. He has won each of his last two starts while allowing just four goals on 80 shots (.950 SV%). Tonight, he will start vs. the Islanders; a matchup that makes him a strong fantasy start.

Craig Anderson
Anderson return to the Senators cage on Friday.

Anderson missed the last seven games with and undisclosed injury, but will be back in goal for the Sens tonight vs. the Blackhawks. In five starts after the Olympic break before he was injured, Anderson went 2-2-1 with a 3.17 GAA and .910 SV%. With Chicago in town, it won't be an easy return.

Craig Anderson
Anderson (undisclosed) says he is ready to return Friday.

Anderson said he is ready to go if he is called upon, but with Robin Lehner leaving pracitce early with an apparent injury, one would think that Anderson will make his return to the crease after backing up the last two games. He has not played since getting hurt on March 10th, and would draw an awful matchup with the Blackhawks in town.
