Ottawa Senators News

The Sabres have reassigned Linus Ullmark to Rochester (AHL).

Ullmark was outstanding in his season debut on Thursday, turning away 44 of 45 shots in the Sabres win over the Blue Jackets. Ullmark is viewed as the Sabres goalie of the future but will go back to Rochester during the Sabres’ bye week and could return after the break. Ullmark could see an extended run with the Sabres if they elect to trade Robin Lehner like they are rumoured to.

Ullmark will make his season debut for the Sabres on Thursday.

Ullmark has appeared in 21 career NHL games but it looks like he will make his season debut tonight vs. Columbus. The Sabres believe Ullmark has a bright future ahead of him, so they’ll give him a shot tonight after he has gone 17-5-1 with a 2.27 GAA, .928 SV% and two shutouts in 26 games with Rochester (AHL). While he might be the Sabres goalie of the future, he will be in tough against Sergei Bobrovsky tonight.

Forsberg will start for the second straight night.

Forsberg stopped 25 of 27 shots in the Blackhawks win in Ottawa last night. After Jeff Glass started four in a row, Forsberg has turned in two straight good starts, stopping 57 of the 60 shots (.950 SV%) that he faced. He has not faced the Wild this season, but has gone 1-1-1 with a 1.50 GAA and .955 SV% on home-ice.

Anton Forsberg
Anderson will start Wednesday in Toronto.

Anderson was pulled after he allowed four goals on 26 shots in the Senators blowout loss to the Blackhawks last night. Getting pulled allowed Anderson to go again tonight, but with limited rest and a tough matchup, look elsewhere tonight. Anderson has gone 2-1-1 with a 4.03 GAA and .903 SV% in his last four starts.

Forsberg starts for the Blackhawks on Tuesday.

Forsberg stopped 32 of the 33 shots that he faced in the Blackhawks win over the Oilers on Sunday. After ceding the crease to 32-year-old rookie Jeff Glass, Forsberg had a nice outing vs. Edmonton and will get a second straight start tonight. Forsberg makes for an interesting spot-start option against a struggling Senators squad.

Anderson will start Tuesday vs. the Blackhawks.

Anderson allowed three goals on 48 shots in the Senators win over the Lightning on Saturday. It has been a difficult season for Anderson but he had a strong weekend, winning back-to-back starts while stopping 75 of 83 shots (.904 SV%). Tonight he will face a Blackhawks team that has lost five of their last right (3-4-1).

The Sabres have recalled Linus Ullmark from Rochester (AHL).

Ullmark has enjoyed a lot of success at the AHL level this season, going 17-5-1 with a 2.27 GAA and .928 SV% in 26 starts with the Americans. There isn’t believed to be any injuries to either Robin Lehner or Chad Johnson so Ullmark’s call-up is a bit of a head scratcher unless they have something in the works.

Anderson will start Saturday vs. the Lightning.

Anderson allowed five goals on 35 shots in the Senators overtime win over the Sharks. Despite letting a lot of rubber get behind him, the Senators will go right back to the veteran netminder tonight against the NHL’s top team. This is a terrible spot for Anderson, making him an extremely risky fantasy option tonight.

Craig Anderson
Anderson will start Friday vs. the Sharks.

Anderson allowed two goals on 35 shots in the Senators overtime loss in Detroit on Wednesday. Anderson has lost his last four starts while allowing a combined 16 goals on 136 shots (.882 SV%). Things won get any easier tonight vs. the Sharks—Anderson allowed five goals on 50 shots in a 5-0 loss in San Jose in mid-December.

Chabot has moved to the Senators top power-play.

The Senators have been terrible this season and their power-play sits at 25th in the NHL (15.9%). Chabot is a gifted young offensive-defenseman and after changing their power-play coach, Chabot becomes the quarterback of the top unit with Erik Karlsson on his left and Mark Stone on his right.

Thomas Chabot
Anderson will start Wednesday in Detroit.

Anderson allowed five goals on 23 shots in the Senators loss in Boston last Wednesday. Anderson was dealing with an illness last week so Mike Condon started the last two games, but Anderson is ready to go tonight in Detroit. Anderson has lost three straight while posting a 4.60 GAA and .861 SV% and has become a very risky option this season.

Craig Anderson
Forsberg will start Thursday in Vancouver.

Forsberg stopped 21 of 22 shots after replacing Corey Crawford in the Blackhawks loss in New Jersey before the Christmas break. With Crawford landing on IR on Wednesday Forsberg becomes the Blackhawks No.1 going forward. Forsberg has gone 1-3-2 with a 3.71 GAA and .894 SV% on the road this season.
