Girard suffered a lower-body injury in New Jersey on Tuesday and will be out until early-to-mid April. With Girard out for an extended period of time, expect the Avalanche to dip into their organizational depth for a defenseman.

Chinakhov will be back in the Blue Jackets lineup on Friday.
Chinakhov has been a healthy scratch for the last two games but will replace Brendan Gaunce (day-to-day) in the lineup on Friday. Chinakhov has scored six goals with five assists (11 points) in 43 games this season.
The Penguins have signed Taylor Gauthier to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Gauthier was an undrafted free agent goalie out of the WHL. The 21-year-old netminder has gone 20-6-0 with a .932 SV% in 28 games with Prince George and Portland this season.

Robertson will make his season debut on Saturday.
Robertson was called up from the Marlies on Friday and is set to make his season debut in Detroit. The 20-year-old has scored three goals and five assists (eight points) in nine AHL games this season. He has one assist in six career NHL games to date.
The Maple Leafs have recalled Nick Robertson from Toronto (AHL).
Robertson is among the Maple Leafs' top prospects but has had a tough time gaining any traction due to repeated injury issues. Since returning to the Marlies lineup recently, Robertson has scored three goals with five assists (eight points) in nine games. He had one assist in six games with the Maple Leafs last season.
Karlsson (forearm) could be back in two weeks.
Karlsson skated again on Wednesday and the Sharks are hopeful that he could be back in the middle of March. Karlsson underwent surgery to repair a muscle tear in his left forearm on January 24th.
Bemstrom has been activated from the COVID-19 protocol list.
Bemstrom has missed the last seven games while in COVID-19 protocol but the Blue Jackets placed Joonas Korpisalo on IR and activated Bemstrom on Wednesday. This cleared the way for him to play Thursday in Florida but coming off of a win over the Maple Leafs, don't be surprised if they go with the same lineup as Tuesday.
Dumba (lower-body) will not play Monday vs. the Red Wings.
Dumba returned from a two-game absence with an upper-body injury on Saturday but suffered a lower-body injury that will keep him out of the lineup on Monday. The Wild did not provide a timeline on Dumba, only saying he will be re-evaluated tomorrow. Jordie Benn will replace him in the lineup vs. Detroit.
Malkin (COVID-19) is expected to be back in the Penguins lineup on Sunday.
Malkin practiced on Friday and Saturday and is expected to play Sunday in New Jersey. He's officially listed as a game-time decision, so monitor his status as the Penguins hit the ice for warmups.
Dumba (upper-body) will be back in the Wild lineup on Saturday.
Dumba missed the last two games with an upper-body injury but will replace Jordie Benn in the lineup on Saturday. Dumba has scored four goals with 16 assists (20 points) in 39 games this season.
