Orlov suffered a lower-body injury in last week's preseason game vs. the Red Wings, but he is healthy and ready to play in the season opener vs. Boston. Orlov is coming off of a season where he had career-highs in goals (12) and points (35) in 76 games.
Leason was a second-round pick (No.56 overall) in 2019 and split his 2022 season between the AHL and NHL. During his time with the Capitals, the 6-foot-5, 218 lbs. winger had three goals and three assists in 36 games. Leason will likely battle Pavol Regenda for a bottom-6 role with the Ducks.
Samsonov will get his first start as a member of the Maple Leafs a night after they dropped a 4-3 battle to the Canadiens in Montreal. The 25-year-old joins Toronto after three up-and-down seasons in Washington where he collected 52 Wins and a .902 SV% throughout 79 Games started. He will look to solidify the Maple Leaf's crease after Matt Murray gave up four goals on 23 shots the night prior.
Kaut cleared waivers on Sunday and was sent to the AHL, where he had 31 points (19G / 12A) in 46 games a season ago. He appeared on track for a bottom-6 role with the Avalanche but will start the year with the Eagles.
Dellandrea broke his finger in Thursday's preseason game and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. Stars' head coach Pete DeBoer said that he had Dellandrea pencilled into the NHL roster, but the injury opens the door for someone else to step up.
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes released a statement on Thursday confirming that Price could potentially miss the entire 2022-23 campaign. Hughes said the "the news in terms of Carey's knee is pretty discouraging in the sense that there hasn't been any improvement through the rehab process all last season." Price, who will be added to LTIR, is expected to have an update on his future in the next month.
Sherwood has had stints with the Ducks and Avalanche since turning pro in 2018, appearing in a combined 87 career NHL games, posting 18 points (7G / 11A). With the Predators he'll likely remain a fringe roster player that will excel during his time in the AHL--he was third in the league in goals (36) and sixth in points (75) in 2022.
