Binnington will start the Blues season opener vs. Columbus.

The last team to begin their 2022-23 season, the Blues will finally play their first game of the season with Jordan Binnington taking the start Saturday vs Columbus. The 29-year-old struggled mightily 2021-22 season, posting a .901 SV% and a 3.13 GAA in 37 starts.

Texier will not join the Blue Jackets for the 2022-23 season.

The Blue Jackets released a statement that read "per the advice and recommendation of the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program, will not join the club for the 2022-23 NHL season." In the statement, Texier said "During the past year, I have experienced some personal issues and challenges and I feel I need to be close to my family at this time." His $1.525M cap hit will come off of the Blue Jackets' books this season.

The Hurricanes have signed Mackenzie MacEachern to a one-year, two-way contract.

MacEachern played four years with the Blues, scoring 11 goals with eight assists (19 points) in 111 games. He played most of 2022 in the AHL, tallying 25 points (12G / 13A) in 47 games with Springfield. In Carolina, he'll likely be a fringe roster player again and could start the season in the AHL.

The Blues have signed Josh Leivo to a one-year deal worth $750K.

Leivo saw some NHL action with the Hurricanes last season but spent most of the year in the AHL, where was fifth on the team with 46 points (22G / 24A) in 54 games. In St. Louis he'll be a fringe roster player, who may start the year in the AHL.

Toropchenko is expected to be out until December after having shoulder surgery.

Toropchenko will miss the start of the 2022-23 season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Toropchenko will "probably be out until early December." Blues GM Doug Armstrong said that "it's one of those (injuries) where he could have potentially played with it and got injured again, then you're looking at a four- to five-month surgery." Toropchenko had two goals and two assists in 40 combined regular season and playoff games during his first NHL season.
