Tampa Bay Lightning News

The Lightning have recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy from Syracuse (AHL).

There is no word on any injury to Ben Bishop or Evgeni Nabokov at this time, but Vasilevskiy will join the Lightning in Buffalo for Wednesday’s game. Vasilevskiy was excellent in his time with the Lightning while Ben Bishop was injured—he went 2-1-0 with a 2.01 GAA and .940 SV%.

Vasilevskiy will get his third career start on Tuesday.

Vasilevskiy stopped 45 of 47 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday. Since his recall he has turned aside 68 of 71 shots (.958 SV%). As good as he has been, he doesn’t draw the best spot-start matchup tonight, but you can take a risk because the Penguins are really banged up.

Vasilevskiy will start for the Lightning.

Vasilevskiy stopped 23 of 24 shots in the Lightning’s 3-1 win over the Flyers on Tuesday. It was an excellent debut for the 2012 first-round pick, who will make his second career start tonight on Long Island. Ben Bishop is not expected to be out long-term, so Vasilevskiy’s run with the Lightning will be short-lived, but he could make for an OK spot-start tonight.

Elliott (knee) skated again on Wednesday.

Elliott has been a light participant in a number of practices for the better part of two weeks. There has been no details on how Elliott’s injured knee is progressing or when he is expected to return to the crease. The Blues have went 7-2-0 without Elliott, so there is no rush to get him back between the pipes at this time.

The Lightning have recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy from Syracuse (AHL).

Ben Bishop suffered a lower-body injury in Monday’s loss to the Penguins, so Vasilevskiy, 20, has been recalled and is expected to back-up Evgeni Nabokov tonight. Vasilevskiy was the 19th overall pick in 2012 and he has gone 8-3-3 with a 2.34 GAA and .918 SV% with Syracuse—this is his first season in North America.

Elliott (knee) returned to the ice on Tuesday.

Elliott, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since November 25th, skated for the first time since suffering the injury on Tuesday morning. He did some goalie technique drills this morning, but remains without a timeline for his return. Jake Allen and Martin Brodeur are more than capable than carrying the load while Elliott is out, so they will not rush him back.
