Toronto Maple Leafs News

Matthews (upper-body) will not play on Friday; remains day-to-day.

Matthews will miss his second straight game with an upper-body injury and it sounds like there is a good chance he won’t play tomorrow in Boston either. After Saturday the Maple Leafs are off until next Thursday, so it would be smart for them to get their franchise player back to 100 percent instead of rushing him.

Auston Matthews
Bobrovsky will start Monday in New York.

Bobrovsky allowed four goals on 36 shots in the Blue Jackets loss in Tampa Bay on Saturday. The loss snapped Bobrovsky’s four-game winning streak, but it looks like he will start the first game of their back-to-back tonight in New York. In his first start against the Rangers (10/13) Bobrovsky stopped 37 of 38 shots in a 3-1 win.

Matthews (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision on Monday.

Matthews was on the ice for the morning skate, but left after roughly seven minutes and his status for tonight’s game is in doubt. This is bad news for the Maple Leafs, who have lost five of their last six games coming into tonight. Matthews leads the Maple Leafs in goals (10) and points (18). If he is unavailable, William Nylander will shift to centre.

Bobrovsky will start Wednesday vs. the Sabres.

Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 31 shots in the Blue Jackets’ loss to the Kings last Saturday. With three days off and a back-to-back later this week, look for Bobrovsky to start two of the next three, including tonight vs. the Sabres. He has a 2.16 GAA and .927 SV% in six starts, so make sure he’s in your lineups tonight.
