Toronto Maple Leafs News

The Oilers recalled Matt Benning from his long-term injured reserve conditioning loan with Bakersfield (AHL).

Benning has not suited up for the Oilers since December 1st and picked up one assist in three games with Bakersfield during his conditioning stint. Benning's return to the team doesn't necessarily mean that he'll play on Wednesday, but he comes back up with five assists in 24 games this season.

Muzzin (foot) is expected to be back in the Maple Leafs lineup on Monday.

Muzzin missed the last 10 games with a broken foot but is expected to play Monday in Nashville. Muzzin was recently recalled from a one-game conditioning stint with the Marlies and skated on the top-pair with Justin Holl in Sunday's practice. He will likely log massive minutes while Morgan Rielly is out and comes into play with 13 points (3G / 10A) in 38 games this season.

Jake Muzzin
Matthews (wrist) is expected to play Monday in Nashville.

Matthews attended the All-Star weekend but did not play, but anticipates playing Monday vs. the Predators. Following Sunday's practice, Matthews said his wrist "isn't 100 percent" but will play anyways. Matthews enters play with 15 goals and eight assists (23 points) in his last 15 games.

Murray will start Friday in Detroit.

Murray stopped 28 of 31 shots in the Lightning's win in Colorado last Friday. Tristan Jarry started the last three games, including last night, so Murray draws the favourable matchup tonight in Detroit. He's won three straight and the Red Wings should be grossly outmatched by his teammates.

Rielly will miss at least eight weeks with a fractured foot.

Rielly underwent a CT scan on Monday and it revealed a fractured foot, that will sideline the Maple Leafs’ defenseman for at least two months. This is a huge blow for a Toronto team, that is already without Jake Muzzin with the same type of injury. Rasmus Sandin was called up from the Toronto Marlies (AHL) this morning to replace Rielly moving forward.

Murray will start Friday in Colorado.

Murray allowed two goals on 28 shots in the Penguins win in Montreal last Saturday. Tristan Jarry has played great and that has limited Murray to just four starts since the start of December, but he is 3-1-0 with a 3.29 GAA and .890 SV% in four starts over that span.

Murray will start Saturday vs. the Predators.

Murray allowed four goals on just 14 shots in the Penguins 4-1 loss in Vancouver last Saturday. No one needed the Christmas break more than the 25-year-old Penguins' netminder, who is 1-3-3 with a 3.89 GAA and .848 SV% in his last eight starts. He comes into Saturday's game at 6-2-2 with a 2.58 GAA and .913 SV% at the PPG Paints Arena this season.
