Winnipeg Jets News

Hellebuyck leads the Jets onto the ice for warmups.

Hellebuyck made 32 saves on 33 shots in the Jets 6-1 blowout win over the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Hellebuyck has stopped 46 of 48 shots (.948 SV%) to pick up back-to-back wins to start his NHL career. His career might be off to a blistering start, but he draws a very difficult matchup this afternoon with the Capitals in town.

Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck will start Wednesday vs. the Maple Leafs.

Hellebuyck stopped 14 of 15 shots that he faced in the Jets’ win in Minnesota last Friday. It was an easy NHL debut for the 22-year-old goaltending prospect. Michael Hutchinson has started three of the last four games and has allowed a combined 12 goals, so Hellebuyck will have a chance to become the Jets’ No. 1 temporary No. 1 with a strong game tonight. He draws a great matchup vs. a Maple Leafs team that has lost three of four while averaging 2.00 goals per game.

Hellebuyck, 22, was a fifth round pick (130th overall) in 2012. Hellebuyck was 2-7-1 with Manitoba (AHL) despite posting a 2.41 GAA and .927 SV% this season. There is a lot of hype surrounding the former UMass-Lowell goaltender, who appears to be in line to make his NHL debut in Minnesota.

Miller (lower-body) will play on Thursday.

Miller missed the last two games with a lower-body injury but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. Minnesota. Miller has one goal and six assists (seven points) in 14 games this season. Miller will replace Kevan Miller, who is out with an upper-body injury.

Colin Miller
Colin Miller is expected to make his NHL debut on Saturday.

Miller, 22, came over in the Milan Lucic trade this summer and will make his NHL debut tonight vs. the Canadiens. Miller has a tonne of offensive ability on the blueline—he had 19 goals and 33 assists (52 points) in 70 games with Manchester (AHL) last season.

Colin Miller
The Bruins have acquired Colin Miller, Martin Jones and the 13th overall pick from the Kings for Milan Lucic.

Miller, 22, led all Manchester (AHL) defensemen and finished second among all AHL blue liners with 52 points (19G / 33A) in 70 games this season. He is under-sized at 6-foot, 173 lbs, but the 2012 5th round pick has plenty of offensive upside that will help ease the Bruins loss of Dougie Hamilton, who was traded to the Flames earlier in the day.
