Teemu Selanne needs rest, unlikely to play tonight vs. Oilers

It seems like Selanne will rest his sore groin tonight, taking it easy on his sensitive injury.  As Curtis Zupke of The OC Register points out, the Ducks will have four games off following tonight’s game so resting seems even more beneficial.

Here are some quotes from Selanne on the subject:

“We’ll see tomorrow how it feels,” Selanne said. “But I’m going to be smart with this. I’m not going to take any risk.”

Selanne said the injury has been lingering for about “five or six days” and the team’s heavy schedule – Sunday will conclude 11 games in a 19-day span – has not allowed him much time to recover

“I had this before a few years ago so I knew exactly what was going on,” he said. “I thought I’d back off right away.

In summary, it sounds like Selanne knows what he is doing and that he will most likely not play tonight.

Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne left last night’s 4-3 loss with an apparent groin injury.  At this point we do not know the extent of the injury other than he did not return to the game.

Through 22 games, the 40-year-old Selanne has scored eight goals and holds a a point-per-game pace.
